Biography:
JOSEPH MURTHA is an veteran litigator who has tried cases in both State and Federal Courts. He is renowned in the area of criminal defense, both locally and nationally. He successfully defended Linda Tripp against charges that she violated the law when taping conversations with Monica Lewinsky. Monica Lewinsky's confessions of having an affair with the President of the United States brought this area into the national spotlight. Linda Tripp bypassed the many national self-proclaimed experts who sought to represent her and relied on Joe's common sense approach and proven legal abilities in relating to juries. Joe has appeared on Larry King Live, Geraldo, Face the Nation, Fox News Sunday, CNN Late Edition, as well as many other public forums. Joe has represented many political figures, and he has received the highest rating, an AV rating, by his peers. For those wrongfully accused, he is without equal in his tireless pursuit of justice.
In addition, Joe is often a featured speaker in the area of criminal law. Prior to entering private practice, Joe served as a Senior Assistant State's Attorney for Howard County, handling a broad array of criminal matters. Joe's experience and dedication to the cause of his clients has earned him a reputation as a respected and powerful litigator. Joe is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Baltimore County Bar Association, the Howard County Bar Association, the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney's Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Joe was recently included in the January 2009 issue of "Baltimore Magazine" as a recent selection into the "Super Lawyer" section.
