In June 2007, 3 friends boarded a friends cabin cruiser. They closed the door, activated the on board generator and within an hour were dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that kills without warning. The boat had recently been purchased from a large boat dealer and manufacturer. Jay Miller, partner at Miller, Murtha & Psoras led the trial team that negotiated a settlement of $2.75 million dollars.

A client was injured while working at a large steel manufacturing plant in Baltimore, Maryland. A truck was stopped on the side of the roadway and the driver failed to “chock” the truck. When its airbrakes failed to secure it, the truck rolled free striking the client causing him a very severe leg injury. The case was tried in the Circuit Court for Baltimore county by Trial attorney Francis Lanasa and partner Jay Miller of Miller, Murtha & Psoras. A jury returned a verdict in the amount of 3 million 2 hundred thousand dollars.

After an uncomplicated pregnancy, a client arrived at a local hospital. Fetal monitoring was started and a rapid fetal heart rate was detected. During contractions, the fetal heart failed to return to a normal beat pattern (baseline) and it fetal distress was diagnosed. Clearly an immediate C-section was needed to remove this baby from the hostile environment. Hospital nurses paged the Ob-Gyn but he was home sleeping and was slow to respond. Once reached, it still took hours for him to arrive and ultimately deliver the baby. Even once at the hospital, he neglected to do a C-section choosing instead to allow the fetus to deliver vaginally. The baby was born with severe brain damage, a diagnosed Cerebral Palsy and needs a lifetime of future care both from Mom and nurses. A very large, yet confidential settlement was achieved that will take care of the childs’ future needs.
